Wondering about the release of Grand Theft Auto 6? Well, in this article we bring you some of the latest information regarding the development and launch of the highly-anticipated sequel to one of the most successful video games of all time. However, there’s a lot of GTA mystery surrounding this release, and Rockstar Games have done a good job of keeping the development a secret.
Even though the company recently released the GTA Remastered Trilogy – which turned out to be a bit of a disappointment upon launch – fans of the series have had to rely entirely on rumors to get a rough idea of what to expect of this next entry in the franchise. One of the strongest rumors is that developers are trying to build on the foundations established by GTA 5, with the possibility of multiple protagonists being featured again, in an “ever-evolving city” which would be continuously expanded with several updates over time.
However, it’s important to note that all this information is based on leaks and rumors, and Rockstar has remained tight-lipped about the next installment in the series. The company is yet to make official announcements, and even the release date is still kept under secrecy.
Nevertheless, developers are up to a tough task, as GTA 6 has a lot to live up to. Released way back in 2013, GTA 5 sold almost 110 million copies worldwide, and it even crashed the Epic Games Store in May 2020, when the game was offered for free during a weekend. The online version of the game was a commercial success and received critical acclaim, and to this day, Rockstar still releases tons of content for GTA Online.
Despite not being officially announced, plenty of leaks and rumors might give us a bit of a picture as to what GTA 6 will turn out to be. So, let’s take a look at what we know so far.

“there are only a handful of titles that can…provide management with the confidence to put out such a strong guidance; we believe there is at least one Rockstar IP set to be released by FY24”
Although many were expecting a launch for 2023, Rockstar hasn’t released anything that would suggest this may be the case.
A recent press release by Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, contained a note with the following information, “Looking ahead, the combined company is expected to deliver a 14 percent compound annual growth rate […] over the three-year period from Take-Two’s Fiscal Years 2021 through 2024.”
According to Stephen Totilo, a reporter for Axios and former Kotaku editor-in-chief, “there are only a handful of titles that can […] provide management with the confidence to put out such a strong guidance; we believe there’s at least one Rockstar IP set to be released by the Fiscal Year 2024”.
If this is correct, the release date for GTA 6 might be anywhere between April 2023 and March 2024, a time window that has been corroborated by several reporters, analysts, and leakers.
GTA Online Game
Since the online version of GTA 5 is still going strong, with Rockstar regularly adding new content, activities, and events to the multiplayer environment, and given the fact that besides GTA 4 and both Red Dead Redemption games also had online servers, it’s only natural to expect the introduction of an online iteration to GTA 6.
GTA Online was one of the most celebrated features of GTA 5, due to its depth and immersiveness. With hundreds of special missions, heists, and even a , GTA Online added uncountable hours to the gameplay and attracted millions of players since its release.
The Diamond & Resort, by the way, is one of the most beloved locations in GTA 5’s map, a perfect place to earn some quick cash by playing games that include slots, roulette, blackjack, and three-card poker. With such a success, there’s next to no chance that a won’t be featured in GTA 6. But even if Rockstar doesn’t bring back a location, players can still enjoy these classics in one of the many iGaming platforms available today.
Location
In an interview in 2013, Leslie Benzies, president of Rockstar North, referred to some of the cities featured in the franchise. “We don’t know what GTA 6 will be, but we’ve got some ideas. We’ve got about 45 years’ worth of ideas we want to do. We’ll pick the right ones. It comes from the idea first. Where it is going to be set is the first question. That then defines the missions; you’re doing different things in LA than in New York or Miami. The map and story get worked up together, and the story is a basic flow of how it works out so you can layer the mission in.”Several leaks on Reddit under the codename Project Americas suggest that the next GTA release could incorporate some features that include a modern-day map set in multiple locations, potentially based on more than one city in the United States, a chapter system similar to Red Dead Redemption, and the return of some characters from GTA 5.
