Android or Apple: Which Brand Is More Crypto-Friendly?

Crypto

Any crypto enthusiast will tell you this: storing your cryptos safely is just as important as investing in them. And to do so, you will need to make use of crypto wallets – services that allow you to send and receive crypto tokens. But people tend to overlook another more important fact: which brand is more crypto-friendly, Android or Apple?

Both OSs have their fair share of pros and cons, but we rarely talk about them from a crypto perspective.

So with that in mind, we’ll be taking a look at Android and Apple OSs to help you decide which system works best for you, starting with:

1. Safety and security

First, we need to get this out of the way – hot wallets are software that allows users to store and receive cryptocurrencies. On the other hand, cold wallets store your cryptocurrencies offline on an external device.

And this is why hot wallets on both Android and iOS devices usually have similar safety features, ranging from customized PINS to two-factor authentication.

However, it should be noted that the Android OS is open-source, which means that its source code can be accessed by just about anyone. This allows for a greater degree of transparency and customization and exposes hot wallets running on the Android OS to security vulnerabilities.

iOS, meanwhile, is more limited in scope, which makes apps running on Apple devices more difficult to hack into.

2. Support for crypto-friendly wallets

As the dominant OS on the mobile market, it’s easy to see why Android has the upper hand over iOS in this area, while iOS users have to contend with more limited offerings.

This also means that the market for crypto-friendly wallet apps on Android will be much more competitive than iOS, i.e., more options available. So, be sure to take a look at the 10 best crypto wallets for Android in 2022 here, so you can make your choice wisely.

Though, it should be noted that Apple’s App Store has more stringent quality control measures in place. Meaning that crypto-friendly wallets available for iOS are usually better designed and more secure.

3. Privacy

Privacy is one area many crypto-friendly enthusiasts and investors take very seriously. And as cryptocurrencies are decentralized, it allows an individual to discreetly transfer or receive funds.

While cryptos-friendly allow for anonymous transactions, hot wallets track and record sensitive information such as addresses, which is a significant issue.

Also, do note that Android is owned by Google, which means that there is a genuine risk that your data is being tracked.

In fact, an article in 2021 revealed that devices running Android OSs collected 20 times more user data than iOS devices. So if you’re using an Android device, you may want to consider switching to a more private method.

Ideally, if you want to stay private, you should instead consider using a desktop and VPN to shield your network traffic.

4. Battery life

Ask any Apple user, and they will probably tell you that Apple devices tend to have a shorter battery life compared to those with Android OSs.

This is because Apple devices usually have smaller batteries, and this can be incredibly frustrating when you’re out and about with no power source available. Hence, if you tend to move around a lot, you may be better served with an Android phone or tablet.

While there are exceptions to the rule, Android tends to trump Apple most of the time in battery life.

5. User experience (UX)

Where Apple loses out to Android in the battery department, there is no doubt that Apple has superior UX. And while Android does allow for better customization, there is just something special about the Apple UX.

From a smoother interface to faster response times, Apple has clearly invested a lot of time and money into making their devices perform better.

To sum up, both Apple and Android devices have their own pros and cons. At the end of the day, it all comes down to your personal preference.
